On the Road with Penguin Classics - Series 3

Penguin commissioned a third series of On The Road with Penguin Classics and so, Henry Eliot and I set off exploring literary landscapes in the UK, France and Portugal.

In Series 3 we visited:

  • Confessions of an English Opium Eater with novelist Will Self: Thomas de Quincey and William S. Burroughs in London's Soho.

  • The Hearing Trumpet with journalist and biographer Joanna Moorhead: Leonora Carrington in the Ardèche.

  • Maurice with cultural historian Diarmuid Hester: E. M. Forster in Cambridge.

  • The Book of Disquiet with translator and biographer Richard Zenith: Fernando Pessoa in Lisbon.

  • Season of Migration to the North with novelist Leila Aboulela: Tayeb Salih in London.

  • The Pilgrim's Progress with novelist Rachel Joyce: John Bunyan in Bedfordshire.
